Acapulco Gold
Acapulco Gold
Also known as: AG, Mexican Sativa, Gold
Overview
Acapulco Gold is a legendary landrace strain that was first recorded in the United States in 1964 and traditionally cultivated in the Guerrero Mountains outside Acapulco, Mexico. This iconic strain was described as having "mind-blowing effects" attributed to its long growing season and adaptation to specific environmental conditions. The strain produces distinctive golden buds that flush in gold and amber tones during the final stages of flowering, featuring a peppery and citrus odor and flavor with dense golden buds covered in resinous trichomes.
During its 1960s heyday, Acapulco Gold was considered "connoisseur pot" and was "a sought-after marijuana for American smokers," known for its exceptional quality with a THC content of 23%, making it one of the strongest strains available at that time. The strain became so legendary that it served as one of the parent strains for Skunk No. 1, which was called "the backbone of the modern cannabis breeding world". As a true landrace strain, Acapulco Gold is indigenous to the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains along Mexico's Pacific Coast and has not been genetically modified or crossbred with other strains, allowing it to naturally evolve and adapt to its specific environment over time.

Growing Information
Acapulco Gold is a Sativa monster plant that can reach 200cm in height and yield up to 500 gr/m2 in 12 weeks. It is usually recommended for outdoor growing due to its size but can be grown indoors with proper techniques like LST and topping. The flowering time is approximately 10-11 weeks indoors with harvest around late October outdoors. Indoor yields range from 450-500 grams per square meter, while outdoor plants can yield more than 500 grams per plant in optimal conditions. Growing requires intermediate skill level and is not recommended for beginners due to specific growing requirements. The strain thrives in warm, sunny climates with daytime temperatures between 70-85°F (21-29°C), requiring 18-20 hours of light during vegetative phase and 12/12 for flowering. Humidity should be maintained around 40-50% during vegetative stage and 30-40% during flowering to prevent mold and bud rot.
