Afghani, also known as Afghan and Afghanistan, is a landrace strain originating from the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, where ancient cannabis plants have thrived for centuries. This remarkable strain has served as the genetic foundation for many contemporary cannabis strains, including some of the most potent indica varieties worldwide, with its stable genetics and strong resin production making it a go-to building block for hybrids like Northern Lights and Blueberry. As an original landrace strain native to the mountains of Afghanistan, Afghani is a pure indica prized for its potency and sturdy genetics, perfected and balanced over centuries by both natural selection and human cultivation.
This strain features dense, compact buds coated in sticky resin, with a deep green hue and occasional purple flecks, along with a generous dusting of trichomes highlighting its potency and suitability for concentrates. Afghani is a fantastic strain for beginner growers and everyone in between, being incredibly uniform even when grown from seed. Indoors, it's the perfect SOG strain - short, branchy, and low maintenance with minimal fertilizer requirements. It has rapid flowering with excellent flower-to-leaf ratios, allowing for generous yields in just 7-8 weeks of flowering, with plants staying short and bushy typical of indica varieties. Outdoors, Afghani can be cropped with ease across Southern Europe and is especially suited to Mediterranean climates, being very hardy and mold resistant, with their rugged lineage making them fairly resistant to pests and environmental stressors. Indoors, Afghani is usually harvested at no more than 1m tall with SOG yields up to 500g/m², while outdoors two or three well cultivated thick bushes up to 2m tall can deliver comparable yields.
