Agha Black (Maruf Black) Preservation is an indica cannabis strain developed by Red Scare Seed Company as a preservation project of traditional Afghan landrace genetics from the Maruf district of Kandahar province, Afghanistan. The strain represents a landrace preservation run designed to maintain the genetic integrity of the original Maruf Black variety cultivated by local farmers including Haji Agha Khan, who has been selecting premium hashish-producing plants for over 15 years in the region. The original landrace was collected from farms located at coordinates 31°39'N, 65°11'E, at an elevation of 1000-1200 meters in the harsh, arid climate of southern Afghanistan.

The Maruf Black selection is distinguished by its completely black embodiment, featuring dark foliage that appears almost black and dense, resin-coated flowers. This phenotype exhibits an excellent calyx-to-leaf ratio and demonstrates remarkable resilience to extreme weather conditions, including cold snaps and the harsh outdoor environment of southern Afghanistan. The plants grow in a calcareous alluvial soil mixture of clay, sand, and silt with a higher sand percentage than typical Himalayan foothill soils. The strain's genetics represent centuries of natural selection and farmer cultivation in one of the world's premier hashish-producing regions.
