Overview
Avidekel is a high-CBD, low-THC cannabis strain developed by the renowned Israeli company Tikun Olam, which developed more than 19 different medicinal varieties and is regarded as having created the world's most researched strain. Released in 2012, it was dubbed the first 'highless marijuana' by Reuters due to its extremely low THC content of 1-2% and high CBD levels of 15-20%. This indica-dominant hybrid (80% indica/20% sativa) was specifically engineered to provide therapeutic benefits without psychoactive effects.
The strain was developed through years of research in a state-of-the-art facility in Northern Israel by scientists, researchers, and cultivation experts at Tikun Olam. Avidekel buds have heavy conical emerald-green nugs with lots of thin orange hairs and a coating of tiny golden white crystal trichomes, displaying olive green and golden tones. The strain has received significant recognition, being crowned High Times Cannabis Strain of The Month in July 2013 and winning first prize in the Best CBD category at the Canadian Cannabis Cup in 2016. Tikun Olam has not made Avidekel seeds available to the public for cultivation, so cloning from existing plants is the only option for obtaining genetics. The strain thrives in warm or Mediterranean climates and grows well indoors in greenhouses, preferring temperatures around 79°F (26°C). Plants typically remain under 6 feet tall outdoors and around 2 feet indoors, with more lateral than vertical growth. Flowering time is 7-9 weeks indoors with yields of 12-16 oz per square meter (450g/m²). Outdoor harvests typically occur in late September to early October with yields of approximately 12 ounces per plant. Growers should trim leaves for light penetration and may need to provide support for heavy bud-laden branches, with low-stress training recommended for node development.
