The strain originates from the traditional cannabis farming region around Quetta, the capital city of Balochistan province in Pakistan. Balochistan is the largest province in Pakistan and is bordered by Afghanistan, Iran, and the Khyber region, and Purple Dasht seeds have been collected from the desert region of Dasht, which is a series of mountains, skirts and secluded valleys at the outskirts of Quetta. Balochistan is located at around 30ºN of the equator with no extreme altitudes (not exceeding 4000 meters), allowing the local varieties to exhibit characteristics typical of populations naturally adapted to mid-latitude ranges between approximately 24º-32ºN.

This selection represents generations of traditional cultivation by local Balochi farmers who have historically crossbred imported varieties from Afghanistan and Uzbekistan with their regional landrace strains. The farmers notoriously import fully domesticated cannabis varieties from higher latitude regions such as Afghanistan and Uzbekistan to amalgamate with their regional landrace strain to achieve shorter flowering compact plants that boast an overall higher concentration of cannabinoids and terpenes, which invariably translates in producing a more flavorful and potent hash.
