Chocolate Diesel
Chocolate Diesel
Also known as: Choco Diesel, Chocolate D
Overview
Chocolate Diesel is a sativa-dominant cannabis strain that combines genetics from Sour Diesel and Chocolate Thai. With THC levels ranging from 25% to 30%, it's renowned for its energizing effects, rich flavor profile, and unique genetic lineage. This strain has been crafted by the enigmatic breeder Unknown or Legendary, whose skillful genetics have pushed its popularity to new heights. From Chocolate Thai, it received its love for long summers as well as its chocolate-flavored smoke with bits of fruit, while Sour Diesel strengthened the power of its psychoactive compounds and added the pungent, skunky diesel notes.
Chocolate Diesel is marked by small to medium-sized flowers that adhere to roughly circular shapes. Despite sativa genetics, these buds have a more indica-inflected appearance, with the densely-packed leaves creating a solid nugget. The coiled leaves are a dark shade of forest green and are run through with curly orange hairs. When properly cured, Chocolate Diesel has an aroma that mixes gasoline-like fumes with a whiff of fresh pine, along with some musky, hashy notes hanging underneath. As with other strains in the diesel family, Chocolate Diesel gives off a sour, acrid smoke that mixes flavors of cocoa and diesel on the exhale. This diverse genetic lineage has made Chocolate Diesel a popular choice for continued cultivation and hybridization, with 17 documented direct descendants within the cannabis community.

Growing Information
This strain can be grown indoors or outdoors, although outdoor success depends on a semi-humid, Mediterranean-like climate. Though Chocolate Diesel is a rewarding strain to grow, it presents challenges including a long flowering period that demands patience from cultivators. The plant can be sensitive to pests, strong winds, and extreme weather, so careful monitoring is vital. Humidity control is also crucial to prevent mold and mildew during the dense flowering stage. Chocolate Diesel has a very long flowering time of about 10 to 12 weeks. This extended period is compensated by a generous yield, ranging from 12–16 oz/m2. For outdoor cultivation, in the northern hemisphere, the flowering period generally spans from late October to mid-November. Those cultivating the strain indoors should take care to trim back their plants early on in the vegetative stage as sativas tend to grow very tall. Pruning is crucial to manage the height of the plant and promote lateral growth. Techniques like Low-Stress training (LST) and the Sea of Green (SOG) method can be used to encourage bushier growth and increase yield. Chocolate Diesel has the typical lanky structure of most hybrids classified as Sativa. Its stalks are tall and thin while its branches are too weak to carry the weight of its heavy yields. Moreover, it is susceptible to problems caused by pests and may break off due to strong gusts of wind.
