Overview
Chronic is a legendary hybrid cannabis strain originally bred by Serious Seeds in 1994, created by crossing Northern Lights with Skunk #1. Later in the early 2000s, the seed bank crossed a hybrid of Skunk #1 and Northern Lights with a hybrid of Northern Lights and AK-47 to produce what exists today, with breeder Simon adding AK-47 to upgrade the strain's genetics and give it a "complex, full-spectrum high without losing the nice yield and flavor." The strain won 3rd prize at the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1994 and was improved in 2000, later winning 1st prize at La Bella Flor Cup Spain 2003 and 1st prize at the Highlife Cup Spain 2004.
While the term "chronic" is used by many smokers to describe high-quality cannabis, the Chronic cultivar has been a legendary strain for quite some time. This strain has mainly Indica origins, being an indica-dominant hybrid. The Chronic variety is a medium height, not too dense plant that represents the perfect combination of very good yield and excellent quality, with smokers who appreciate high quality choosing this plant for its combination of appearance and sweet smell. The aroma has an interesting contrast, smelling pungent and skunky with woody and herbal hints, however the sweet notes of honey and flower give the strain's overall fragrance a fascinating twist.

When grown indoors, Chronic takes 56 to 63 days (8-9 weeks) to fully mature and the plant is pretty generous with its yield. It is one of the highest yielding varieties that can reach up to 800g/m2, with indoor yields typically reaching 600 g/m2. When cultivated hydroponically indoors, it could provide up to 21 ounces per square meter, while soil grows provide closer to 14 ounces per square meter. It is best to cultivate Chronic indoors where it becomes easier to manage the strain's ideal temperature and humidity range. Outdoor cultivation is possible given that the plant is grown in a semi-humid climate with daytime temperatures between 72° to 80° Fahrenheit. As a pungent plant, investing in fans and carbon filters to reduce the smell is a good idea. The strain is considered moderately easy to grow and suitable for both novice and experienced cultivators.
