What is the DNL strain?
DNL is a hybrid cannabis strain with up to 20.0% THC, known for its giggly effects and earthy and pungent flavor profile.
The DNL strain is a rare cannabis cultivar that offers a sweet-and-skunky flavor and uplifting effects. This hybrid variety is said to be a cross of Skunk, Hawaiian, and Northern Lights cannabis strains. The Skunk/Hawaiian was crossed with Northern Lights. The result was called DNL because people thought it was Diesel/NL. More specifically, DNL is described as (RFK Skunk x Hawaiian) x Northern Lights, where the RFK Skunk component has historical significance. After a little more research I found out that the DNL has it's roots traced back to a bag of skunk that was bought at a RFK Dead show. The Skunk was grown in the local college town. Seeds were found and grown out. Skunk #1,#2,#3 came out of these seeds. The best skunk was crossed to a Hawaiian. This strain holds legendary status in cannabis history as many believe that this cultivar was crossed with Chem 91 to produce the world-famous East Coast Sour Diesel strain. The strain's name derives from early growers who mistakenly believed it contained Diesel genetics crossed with Northern Lights, though this was later clarified. DNL represents an important bridge between old-school genetics and the modern cannabis varieties that followed. The DNL was the orginal cash crop before the Diesel and Sour. But was phased out after being taken over by the Diesel. Only the orginal breeder and a few have the strain now.

How do you grow DNL?
The DNL has a skunky, tropical funk to it. Great taste, a little light on the head but a happy up high. It grows tall and vigorous, just like the Sour Diesel. Flowering time is 63 days (approximately 9 weeks). DNL can be cultivated indoors and outdoors. The plant exhibits vigorous growth patterns with tall stature, making it suitable for experienced growers who can manage its stretchy growth. The lower branches of the DNL hermi if not pruned properly and it pollinated the 91 Chem Dawg. This indicates the strain requires careful attention to pruning and can show hermaphroditic tendencies if stressed or improperly maintained.
