The strain emerges from a complex four-way cross involving Pure Thai sativa genetics and two different phenotypes of Face Off, creating a unique hybrid profile. According to the breeder, the Pure Thai genetics were first shared with Archive Seed Bank in 2006, slightly before providing Face Off seeds from which the Face Off #4 phenotype was selected. The strain was bred with specific intentions to preserve and showcase the characteristics of the Pure Thai mother plant, with selections made specifically for traits similar to the original Pure Thai.

This cannabis variety is noted for its distinctive aromatic profile, described as featuring "bubblegum, onion, body odor funk" that aims to capture the essence of old school herb from the early to mid-1990s. The strain represents what the breeder calls "friendship and preservation at its finest," emphasizing the collaborative nature of its development and the preservation of classic cannabis genetics. Face of Friendship can be cultivated both indoors and outdoors, though it has never been made available as feminized seeds, being offered only in regular seed form.
