Gelato
Gelato
Also known as: Gelato #42, Larry Bird, Zelato
Overview
Gelato is an evenly-balanced hybrid cannabis strain originally bred by Sherbinskis in San Francisco, created by crossing Sunset Sherbet and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies. With THC levels typically ranging from 15-20% and often reaching higher potency in prime examples, Gelato set a new standard for potency in a flavorful package. The strain quickly became a new-school icon in the cannabis world, proving that phenomenal flavor and powerful effects can indeed go hand in hand.
Appearance-wise, Gelato's buds tend to be small but they have the thick and dense structure characteristic of many indica varieties, with bright orange pistils that stand out against forest green leaves accented by shades of deep purple. The purple hues come about when high concentrations of pigments called anthocyanins are stimulated by cold weather in the vegetative stage. This strain's success sparked a whole family of Gelato variants and phenotypes (Gelato #33, #41, #45 and more), as breeders raced to capitalize on its stellar genetics. Gelato #33 is sometimes nicknamed "Larry Bird" after the basketball legend's jersey number.

Growing Information
The Gelato marijuana strain is not the most challenging cultivar of cannabis to grow and has a good level of pest resistance. However, it is sensitive to humidity and temperature changes, so it may be better for those with a few grows under their belt than those who are brand new to growing cannabis. It takes between 55 and 65 days for Gelato crops to flower indoors (8-10 weeks), or between the end of September to mid-October for outdoors. Gelato is better suited for indoor growing, with expected yields of around 17 ounces per square meter. Expect Gelato to grow between 3 and 5 feet or 36 to 60 inches, with ideal temperatures between 70-80°F during the day, reducing by 10-15 degrees at night to stimulate purple coloration. Gelato plants are sensitive to temperature and humidity, with odor management being an issue, especially as the plants enter the late flowering stage.
