The strain exhibits a mix of sativa-dominant and indica-dominant phenotypes, making it a versatile hybrid that can express different characteristics depending on the phenotype. The Orange Cognac mother plant was an unnamed cut gifted to the breeder without genetic history, characterized by its distinctive sweet citrus skunk aroma with zesty and bitter undertones reminiscent of hops and alcohol. When combined with the Granddaddy Purple F3 male - derived from Ken's original GDP lineage - the resulting Grand Cognac inherits both the citrusy complexity of its mother and the grape flavors and purple potential from its indica-dominant father. The strain's terpene profile doesn't fully mature until around the 8th week of flowering, initially presenting as soft and skunky before developing its characteristic cognac-like aroma that gives the strain its name.
