The strain is a cross between two legendary genetics: Mazar (Pre-2000) and Sage. The Sage parent, which stands for Sativa Afghani Genetic Equilibrium, is a tightly held cut that has been in Fort Collins, Colorado for over 10 years. The breeding goal was to reduce the long flowering time of the Sage cut while adding the potency characteristics of the Mazar strain.

Hyper Diaper typically expresses three distinct phenotypes: a short Mazar-dominant plant, a tall Christmas tree-shaped Sage-dominant phenotype, and a hybrid phenotype that combines traits from both parents. The hybrid phenotype is most commonly found and produces cone-shaped buds that are heavily coated in trichomes.
