Kashmir Lolab Valley is a first-generation (P1) landrace strain originating from the Lolab Valley in the northernmost part of Indian Kashmir, specifically in the Kupwara district. Located at 34 degrees North latitude and altitudes ranging from 4,000 to 10,000 feet, this valley sits adjacent to the Neelum Valley in Azad Kashmir. The region has endured political tensions due to its position at the Line of Control between India and Pakistan, yet it remains renowned for producing exceptionally high-quality herbs and fruits due to its unique wet-cold climate. The valley experiences extreme weather conditions, with temperatures dropping below freezing from December to March and high humidity levels that never drop below 70% year-round, often staying in the high 80% range.
