Kerala Chellakutti

Sativa

Also known as: Kerala Gold, Chellakutti

Kerala Chellakutti Strain Overview

Kerala Chellakutti is a classic pure South Indian Sativa from a remote mountainous area near the Tamil Nadu border in the Western Ghats of Kerala state. "Chellakutti" is a term in Tamil for "the person you love", reflecting the reverence for this rare landrace strain. The seeds were acquired directly from local Kerala farmers by Coco Genes from the Collector's Collective and gifted to Khalifa Genetics for preservation and development. This strain represents one of Kerala's most potent Indian landraces that are in danger of extinction due to habitat loss from urbanization and harsh eradication campaigns.

Unlike many Kerala cultivars, Kerala Chellakutti does not have a fruity smell. Instead, the aromas are reminiscent of a delicious blend of spice and pepper with an underlying Hazy flavor. This strain is spicy, hazy and metallic in flavor rather than fruity like most other South Indian varieties. The plant shows relatively short internodal spacing compared to most tropical Sativas and is highly mold resistant and able to withstand heavy rains due to Kerala being India's wettest state.

Kerala Chellakutti Strain Growing Information

Flowering time is approximately 150 days (±21-22 weeks) with indoor flowering taking 18-25 weeks. Outdoor harvest is typically November-December with medium yields and tall plant height. The vigorous plants will thrive in a wet and warm environment such as a greenhouse. Despite very long flowering time and tremendous flowering stretch making it challenging to grow indoors, experienced indoor growers can achieve great results. The optimal light cycle indoors is 11 hours of light for 13 hours of darkness. The smell is very discrete at first as plants only start producing trichomes late into the flowering cycle around the 13th to 16th week. Indoor cultivation requires pruning and topping several times, which can continue until day 70 of flowering, with low to medium nutrient levels recommended.
