M-39 Strain Overview

M-39 is a legendary indica-dominant hybrid cannabis strain that gained fame as one of the most influential Canadian strains of all time. M-39 made the High Times Magazine list of Top 10 Canadian Strains of All Time in 2013. Originally bred by the Super Sativa Seeds Club, M-39 was listed as a cross of Basic #5 and Skunk #1. Now, however, it is widely believed that Basic #5 was actually Northern Lights #5, which would make the strain of the same genetics as Sensi Seed's Shiva Skunk. One of the more notable varieties that Karel received from Nevil was the Northern Lights No.5 which the Super Sativa Seed Club called 'Basic 5' and sold in hybrid with Skunk No.1 (m39).

During the 1990s and early 2000s, M-39 became synonymous with Canadian commercial cannabis, particularly as the backbone of "Beasters" - it is often thought of as a lesser potent strain because for many years it has been used as a commercial strain to produce large and easy-to-grow yields that do not focus on quality or even THC. Heavyweight indica-dominant genetics and true ease of growth made this hardy strain a staple for Canadian growers from Quebec to Ontario and beyond. The strain's appearance features forest green to sage green buds with flashes of blue and purple throughout them. They have tiny bright orange hairs hiding behind a thick sticky wall of chunky resinous trichomes.

M-39 is considered an easy strain to grow, suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation. M-39 is an mostly indica from Quebec Cannabis Seeds and can be cultivated indoors and outdoors (Where the plants will need a flowering time of ±43 days) M39 plants are medium-short in stature, typically reaching 80–120 cm indoors with minimal training and topping. Internodes are tight, leaves are broad to mid-broad, and the canopy forms a tidy, uniform plane that is easy to manage under LEDs or HPS lamps. Expected yields range from 350-450 grams indoors to 450-500 grams outdoors. Discreet, low to the ground and fast to finish, M-39 also grows perfectly through the shorter seasons and harsher conditions of northern territories.
