Malverde

Sativa

Also known as: Mexican Survivor

Malverde Strain Overview

Malverde, also known as "Mexican Survivor," is a heavily sativa dominant hybrid strain (90% sativa/10% indica or 95% sativa/5% indica) with unknown parentage but is said to be a strain native to the Michoacán regions of Mexico. This specimen is the survivor from when the US Government sprayed certain Mexican cultivations with crop killer, in order to mitigate drug trafficking. One surviving batch of this marijuana happened to have some seeds inside. These seeds were used in order to achieve a mighty clone of Malverde aka Mexican Survivor, which had been preserved for ages in the Michoacan region. The name Malverde almost certainly references Jesús Malverde, a folk figure from Sinaloa who is sometimes called the "Generous Bandit" or the "narco-saint" in popular culture. In cannabis branding, this association is typically used to evoke themes of folklore, regional pride, and a distinctly "verde" (green) identity.

This bud has fluffy spade-shaped dark olive green nugs with amber undertones, bright orange hairs and frosty purple-tinted white crystal trichomes. This bud is best known for its delicious flavor, which is said to be like enjoying a fresh margarita, with tastes of sweet and sour citrus accented by fresh lemon and lime and just a touch of spice. The aroma is just as delicious, with a spicy citrus overtone and sweet lemon-lime scents galore. As a strain designation, Malverde began appearing on West Coast menus in the early 2020s, often in limited quantities. Like many contemporary hybrids, it may have emerged through collaboration between boutique breeders and small craft producers rather than as a mass-market seed-line.

Malverde Strain Growing Information

Indoor flowering time is 65-70 days, with outdoor flowering completing in late October. Plants reach medium height with very high production yields. This is a medium sized plant, however its branching is not particularly dense so it will be possible to find its tips full of buds. We strongly recommend this plant is topped and pinched, in order to realise its optimal performance & yields. Its indoor performance is very satisfactory when using lights, reaching its apogee in about 9 weeks. Outdoor cultivations have a surprisingly nice performance. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation, though requires experience due to its sativa heritage and longer flowering time.
