Mandala #1 Strain Overview
Bred by Mandala Seeds, Mandala #1 is a hybrid strain with genetic roots in South Africa, New Zealand, and Northern India, specifically created by crossing North Indian Sativa, New Zealand Purple Indica, and South African Highland Sativa. Mandala Seeds was founded in 2004 by Mike and Jasmin and together they share more than 40 years of experience in cannabis cultivation, breeding, and collecting heirloom strains. This strain was specifically developed to combine hardy landrace genetics with a resinous hybrid structure, making it an excellent choice for northern climates and early harvest requirements.
Mandala #1 is renowned for its exceptional cold and pest resistance, making it legendary among outdoor growers in challenging climates. Cultivators from Finland, Canada, USA, Eastern Europe and alpine Switzerland have attested to the extraordinary survival features and quality harvests of their Mandala #1 plants. The strain exhibits two basic phenotypes - most plants belong to the sativa dominant phenotype and grow in a Christmas tree shape, while the indica dominant phenotype develops a fat main stem, bigger leaves and a more compact structure. Despite its sativa dominance, the buds are chunky and plants are easy to grow.
The strain produces prime head buds coated with a thick layer of trichomes and glisten brightly in the sun. Some plants develop beautiful dark purple calyxes during mid-flowering: a trait inherited from the New Zealand Purple Indica in the paternal line. Properly cured buds have a natural sweet fragrance like dried apples. This strain has been cultivated nearly 15 years by medical users and compassion clubs, establishing its reputation for consistent quality and therapeutic value.

Mandala #1 Strain Growing Information
Mandala #1 has a relatively short flowering time of approximately 55 to 60 days. Mandala #1 has a moderate yield of 450g/m2 and results in a medium to slightly tall plant indoors, while the harvest comes at the end of September outdoors and brings excellent yields of 800-1200 gr/plant. Mandala #1 is considered suitable for beginner growers. It grows like an indica, with a compact structure and a short flowering cycle. This strain can be relatively easier to cultivate compared to other more demanding strains. Since this strain has a high percentage of landrace genetics that was adapted to growing on nutrient poor soil, the plants subsist easily in good horticultural grade potting soil and require little feeding if any. All plants are suitable for SCROG and other forms of training. The strain excels in northern climates with legendary cold and pest resistance.
