Mataro Blue
Mataro Blue
Also known as: Mataró Blue, Mtb
Overview
Mataro Blue is a rare indica-dominant hybrid strain created by Spanish seed company Kannabia Seeds through a sophisticated three-way cross of Black Domina, Mazar-i-Sharif, and Blue Monster. Named after Mataró, a coastal city near Barcelona where cannabis research and strain development takes place, this award-winning variety has earned international recognition for its exceptional quality and potency. The strain won first place for Medical Indica at the 2012 Treating Yourself Expo in Toronto, first place for rosin at the 2016 Lift Expo in Toronto, and third place for physical appearance at the Copa Cannabica Axarquia in Spain in 2013. Mataro Blue is distinguished by its incredibly stable genetics, producing only two very similar phenotypes, making each seed nearly clone-like in consistency. The buds are notably dense and compact, displaying deep forest green colors with bright blue undertones that become more pronounced in cooler climates, eventually turning electric blue. Each nugget is adorned with thin orange hairs and generously coated with a thick blanket of amber crystal trichomes that shimmer like diamonds, contributing to its exceptional resin production that makes it ideal for hash and concentrate production.

Growing Information
Mataro Blue is considered moderately easy to grow, making it suitable for both novice and experienced cultivators. Indoor flowering time ranges from 58-65 days (8-9 weeks), with indoor yields reaching 600 grams per square meter under optimal conditions. The strain responds well to Sea of Green (SOG) and Screen of Green (SCROG) methods, and benefits from high-wattage lighting (800W/m²). Plants typically reach 70-90cm in height indoors. Outdoor cultivation produces even more generous yields of 700-800 grams per plant, with harvest time in early to mid-October. Outdoor plants can grow up to 2 meters tall and require support structures due to heavy bud production. The strain is notably resistant to pests, mold, and harsh weather conditions, making it excellent for outdoor cultivation. It thrives in both soil and hydroponic systems, with hydroponic setups producing particularly impressive results. The plant develops thick, sturdy branches and dense, compact buds that may require support during late flowering.
