Mazar I Sharif
Mazar I Sharif
Also known as: Mazar, Sharif, Mazari, Afghani Mazar, Afghan Skunk
Overview
Mazar I Sharif is a legendary hybrid cannabis strain that combines Afghani landrace genetics with Skunk #1 lineage, created in the 1980s in Amsterdam. Named after the city of Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan where the strain reportedly originated, this strain represents one of the most significant contributions of Central Asian cannabis genetics to modern cultivation. The Mazar-i-Sharif region lies in the Balkh area of northern Afghanistan, the historic heartland of Afghan cannabis culture and part of the ancient Central Asian homeland of the world's original hashish culture. Afghan farmers traditionally harvest Mazar-i-Sharif to produce the legendary 'Shirak-i-Mazar' ('Milk of Mazar') charas, considered among the finest old-school hashish.
Mazar I Sharif is an indica-dominant hybrid with a sativa/indica ratio of 20:80, though some sources consider it a 100% Indica strain despite its potential to grow up to 400 centimeters tall with characteristics more associated with landrace Sativa genetics. The strain is characterized by bright green spade-shaped buds that become covered with frosty trichomes during flowering, with orange pistils standing out against forest green leaves. Characteristic traits include red stems and pink-red stigmas, making it visually distinctive among cannabis varieties.

Growing Information
Mazar is an uncomplicated cannabis strain that is easy to grow by any type of grower, with a combination of quality, yield, speed, robustness and ease of cultivation that has made this strain a true classic. It is a hardy plant that thrives in both indoor and outdoor cultivation, well-suited for temperate climates, arid climates, and dry climates. Flowering time averages 8-9 weeks indoors, with outdoor harvest typically at the end of October. Plants can yield up to 22 ounces (624 grams) per plant when well-nourished, flowering in 9-11 weeks. Indoor plants generally stay compact and can be kept small, while outdoor plants can grow to immense heights up to 4 meters, especially when grown in the ground or large pots. The most important growing tip is to keep both humidity and temperature under control, as the strain doesn't like extremely high temperatures which can cause buds to become fluffy.
