Purple Hindu Kush
Purple Hindu Kush
Also known as: Purple Kush, PHK, Purple Hindu
Overview
Purple Hindu Kush, also known as Purple Kush, is a legendary pure indica strain that originated in Oakland, California during the 1960s-1970s. This strain is a cross between Hindu Kush from the mountainous Pakistan-Afghanistan border and Purple Afghani, two pure indica landraces from South-Central Asia. Named a Top 10 Kush Strain by High Times magazine in 2016, Purple Hindu Kush has earned its reputation as one of the most potent indica strains available.
The strain is distinguished by its striking visual appearance, featuring dense, medium-sized buds with a remarkable purple coloration. Different phenotypes express varying amounts of green and purple during the later stages of flowering, with the purple coloration caused by anthocyanins that are more likely to occur when plants are exposed to colder nights. The flowers have a very dense, heavy bud structure with popcorn-like appearance when cured, and leaves can be equal parts green and purple. The buds display thick, tapered dark olive green nugs with purple undertones, thin light orange hairs, and a coating of frosty purple-tinted white crystal trichomes.
As a genetic descendant of legendary landrace strains from the Hindu Kush mountains, Purple Hindu Kush carries the robust, resinous characteristics typical of Afghan cannabis varieties. The strain has the special distinction of being visually striking and boldly flavored without sacrificing genetic stability, with roots that stick as closely as possible to the cannabis species' origins in Asia. By crossing Hindu Kush and Purple Afghani, breeders created a plant that's a pure indica with a robust and resilient nature, with both parent strains passing on their best qualities including appealing terpenes, good yields, and ease of growth.

Growing Information
Purple Kush flowers in 8 weeks indoors with yields up to 17.6 oz/m² indoors and 28.2 oz outdoors. The flowering time is 7-8 weeks indoors, growing short and bushy, seldom taller than three feet, making it ideal for indoor growing with approximately 14 ounces per square meter. This is a moderately difficult strain to grow, best suited for more experienced cultivators, and can be grown both indoors and outdoors though it thrives in controlled indoor settings. Being a pure indica, it grows very bushy and short, almost never reaching more than three feet in height, making it suitable for SCROG setups, preferably in hydroponic systems as it's a hungry strain. When growing outdoors, exposure to rain and humidity should be limited, with harvest ready earlier than most strains (mid-September) providing eight ounces per plant.
