Purple Rain (also known as Purple Raine) is an indica-dominant hybrid strain resulting from crossing Grandaddy Purple and Super Silver Haze, though some sources indicate it is a cross between OG Kush, Chemdawg, and Purple Candy Kush strains. The strain was developed in 2015 and originally developed in the Pacific Northwest. Despite its complex genetic background, Purple Rain expresses its Granddaddy Purple ancestry much more noticeably than its other heritage, making it a strongly indica strain. The strain is characterized by deep purple color that looks like a huge purple moss with little buds that have chunky growth and are covered with plenty of hair. The plant's distinctive feature is its stunning visual transformation as it matures, showcasing a vibrant mix of purple and pink hues with minimal green.
