Runtz is a balanced hybrid cannabis strain (50% indica/50% sativa) created through crossing Zkittlez with Gelato strains. Named after the iconic candy, this strain emerged from California's cannabis scene in the late 2010s and was developed by the Runtz Crew consisting of Young LB, Ray Bama, and a breeder known as Nick. The strain gained massive popularity after its 2017 debut at the Emerald Cup, reportedly selling 5 pounds of flower in under 10 minutes, and was later named Leafly's Strain of the Year in 2020. Runtz is celebrated for its dense, grape-shaped olive green nugs with thin orange hairs, dark purple undertones, and a heavy coating of frosty white-purple tinted trichomes. The strain showcases vibrant colors ranging from rich purple to lime green, with some phenotypes displaying pink-tinted sugar leaves.
