The strain was named after a famous orange bitter drink from the USA, reflecting its prominent citrus characteristics.

Scrappy is the result of crossing Ztarburzt with White Caviar elite cut reversed. The White Caviar parent was selected from an award-winning Rose Special Cup winner, chosen from over 600 plants and paired with AJ Sour and a 2012 Chemdawg Special male in breeding work that began in 2017 in Humboldt County's outdoor cultivation environment over three seasons. Ztarburzt contributes genetics from Zkittlez x Agent Orange crossed with Sangria (Forbidden Fruit x Pineapple Thai BX), creating a complex genetic lineage that delivers both flavor complexity and balanced effects.

The strain produces visually striking compact buds with large bracts heavily coated in resinous trichomes, giving them an almost lime-colored appearance with subtle bluish spots appreciable in some phenotypes.
