The term "Hang Kra Rog" means the tail of a squirrel, while "Phu Phan" is the name of the mountain range in northeastern Thailand, mostly located in Sakon Nakhon Province and some regions of Kalasin Province, where this C. sativa landrace strain originated. Most famously, Squirrel Tail was grown in Nakhon Phanom, more specifically - Phon Sawan during the heydays of the Thai-Stick era when large amounts of Thai and Laotian Ganja from the Mekong Lowlands and Khorat Plateau areas was exported to the USA.
Large, bushy flowers, looks like a squirrel's tail which is directly translated to 'Hang Kra Rok' in Thai. It has a rich aroma similar to mangoes with no pungent smell. Chemotype found that the Phu Phan Squirrel tail variety contained similar amounts of THC:CBD, which was consistent with the data of the genotype, with an average ∆9-THC content of 6.06±0.43% Average W/W and CBD at 6.54±0.28 %W/W or THC:CBD equals 1:1. This strain is recognized as one of Thailand's officially registered cannabis cultivars and is considered part of the country's national heritage.
