The Black
The Black
Also known as: Black, Black Weed
Overview
The Black is a legendary indica-dominant strain (90% indica) bred by BC Bud Depot, with origins dating back to the late 1980s in California and Vancouver Island, Canada. According to its secretive backstory, The Black was created using a treasured original Tha Purps clone crossed with genetics from a purple Hawaiian landrace strain, which contributed its distinctive dark purple color and grape/mixed berry flavor profile. More specifically, The Black was created by The Doctor, one of the founding breeders of Deep Ellum Seeds, from a cross of Afghan, Vietnamese, and Mexican landraces handed down to him by his father. In 2008, High Times named The Black one of its Top 10 Strains of The Year. The strain is renowned for its striking visual appearance, featuring medium-sized dense grape-shaped insanely dark purple nugs with black leaves, purple hairs, and a frosty thick coating of purple crystal trichomes. As her name implies, The Black is loaded with anthocyanins that give it a deep purple, almost jet-black appearance.

Growing Information
The Black reaches maturity between 8 to 10 weeks of flowering, with frosty leaves turning from dark purple to black during the flowering stage. As characteristic of many indicas, this strain is optimally used for pain relief and as a sleeping aid. The strain is suitable for both indoor and outdoor cultivation, though specific yield information varies by grower. The Black was named after its unique growing characteristics: frosty leaves turn from a dark purple to black during flowering. Growers should expect a bushy, indica-dominant plant structure typical of its Afghan heritage.
