Xinjiang Landrace is an extremely rare cannabis landrace originating from the autonomous territory of northwest China, near the Kazakhstan border. The seeds were obtained through travel in 2017 near the Kazakhstan border of Almaty, making this a very special, extremely unique variety that is not commonly found and rarely seen anywhere other than preservation and reproduction efforts. This landrace represents an important genetic link to ancient cannabis cultivation in Central Asia, as Xinjiang (eastern Central Asia) is plausibly the center of origin for Indica-type cannabis domesticates. Drug use of cannabis in Xinjiang province was recorded along the Silk Road from the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911 AD) to the twentieth century.

The strain exhibits unique autoflowering characteristics, with certain percentage of phenotypes finishing fast in less than 45 days from seed, while others finish normally in 60-70 days. Like many landrace varieties, it has evolved unique characteristics due to adaptation to high altitudes and harsh climates, extreme temperature variations, leading to robust plants that are hardy and resilient. Given the harsh climate, these plants lean more towards Indica characteristics, including a more bush-like structure, broader leaves, and shorter flowering time, as Indicas typically thrive in environments where they need to complete their life cycle quickly due to climatic challenges. Due to isolation and traditional cultivation practices, these landraces have maintained a high degree of genetic purity and diversity, not crossbred like many commercial strains, offering cannabis that's closer to its wild ancestors.
