Overview
Zkittlez is an indica-dominant hybrid cannabis strain bred from Grape Ape and Grapefruit that is crossed with another undisclosed strain. This sweet, tropical confection-flavored cultivar came to market in the early 2010s, created by skilled breeders known as 3rd Gen Family and Terp Hogz in Northern California. The Original Z won 1st Place at the 2016 Emerald Cup and has placed in several Cannabis Cups in San Francisco and Michigan. In 2023, Terp Hogz announced they will use the name "The Original Z," as part of a settlement with a candy company over alleged trademark infringement.
This strain features medium-sized, spongy green colas with large and lumpy pepper-shaped dark olive green nugs with sparse rich amber hairs and a thick frosty coating of tiny crystal white trichomes. The chunky flowers are typically dark green though they sometimes boast beautiful purple hues, reminiscent of their Grape Ape parent. Zkittlez has a relatively short flowering period of 8-9 weeks when grown indoors. For outdoor cultivators, harvest time typically falls around late September to October. The strain is considered beginner-friendly with a moderate difficulty level, being resilient and adapting well to different growing conditions both indoors and outdoors. Indoor yields are impressive, with growers expecting between 16 and 19 ounces per square yard under optimal conditions. Indoor yields under favorable conditions reach 450–500 gr/m2 while outdoors, you can harvest 70–300 g per plant. The strain has compact growth ideal for indoor cultivation. Strong odor during flowering may require odor control solutions. Zkittlez thrives in a temperate climate with day temperatures between 70-80°F (21-27°C) and slightly cooler temperatures at night. One of the great advantages of Zkittlez is its resistance to pests and diseases, making cultivation easier and reducing the need for pesticides.
